DuPage Regional Office of Education convinced an appeals court to vacate a $210,000 whistleblower award to an individual who says DuPage retaliated against him for raising concerns about federal grant management.

The Illinois-based public entity hired Albert Sanchez to assist with the management of grants from the US Department of Education to support local educators. Sanchez alleged that DuPage’s conduct violated a whistleblower protection provision in the National Defense Authorization Act. A DOE administrative law judge found that DuPage retaliated against Sanchez five times and issued a compensatory damages award.
