The Indian government on Wednesday blocked the X (formerly Twitter) account of China's state-run media outlet, Global Times, for spreading unverified and misleading information regarding the Indian armed forces. This follows a recent warning from the Indian Embassy in China, urging the media outlet to verify facts before sharing content on social media.

“Dear Global Times News, we would recommend you verify your facts and cross-examine your sources before pushing out this kind of disinformation,” the Embassy said in a post on X on May 7.

"Several pro-Pakistan handles are spreading baseless claims in the context of #OperationSindoor, attempting to mislead the public. When media outlets share such information without verifying sources, it reflects a serious lapse in responsibility and journalistic ethics," the Embassy said in a follow-up post.

The Embassy's statement came in response to viral claims by Pakistani accounts and certain media outlets claiming that an Indian Rafale jet was shot down near Bahawalpur.

The PIB Fact Check team flagged one of the viral images as misleading, clarifying that it actually depicted a 2021 MiG-21 crash in Punjab’s Moga district. “Beware of old images shared by pro-Pakistan handles in the present context,” the PIB said in its post.
