Indictment: US Treasury paid man nearly $20M in undeserved tax refunds after he filed false claims - 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS

A Minnesota man received nearly $20 million in undeserved tax refunds after filing false claims, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Caesar Munir Wilson was charged with conspiracy to file false claims for tax refunds, filing a false claim for a tax refund, money laundering and bank fraud.

Federal prosecutors say Wilson falsely requested $90 million in refunds and conspired in filing false tax returns requesting over $210 million. His fraudulent claims allegedly totaled over $350 million and the U.S. Treasury paid him $19 million.

Wilson used the money to purchase a $2.6 million home in Prior Lake, investments in cryptocurrency and other projects, and “personal expenses,” prosecutors said.

He also advised sovereign citizens about trusts and taxes, even providing them with tax filings. Sovereign citizens believe that certain laws don’t apply to their “sovereign persona.
