Insurance fraudster made multiple false claims for 'dropping' TV to pocket £10k - Stoke-on-Trent Live

A man has been convicted of fraud after making multiple false claims of accidental damage for the same television.

Marcin Skrzeczewski, 38, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, claimed that he was carrying the TV with a friend from the bedroom to the living room and that one of them slipped on the stairs and dropped the appliance.

His insurer Admiral reviewed the claim and identified that damage to the exact TV had been lodged with another insurer, which resulted in further investigations.

The court heard Skrzeczewski had taken out a contents policy with Admiral just two weeks before the alleged accidental damage occurred when the claim was logged in April 2021.

Upon investigation, Admiral discovered that Skrzeczewski had submitted a claim for a TV with the same serial number with another insurance company and had even provided them with the same images of the damage.

The Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) was brought in and it was discovered he had used various identities to make eight claims with different insurers, including the one to Admiral, totalling 10,500.

Admiral established that each claim was submitted by the same person from a collection of information about the circumstances, evidence supplied in support of the damage to the TV and bank account information used by the other insurers.

Following a joint investigation with the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB), Admiral passed details of all claims to the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (IFED) within the City of London...
