CAGAYAN DE ORO, Philippines – Law enforcement groups in Northern Mindanao created a special inter-agency investigation team to probe the October 10 murder of whistleblower Niruh Kyle Antatico, a former National Irrigation Administration (NIA) legal researcher, in Cagayan de Oro City.
Police Regional Director Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano initiated the formation of the task force to coordinate the investigation, Major Joan Navarro, spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the region, said on Tuesday, October 14.
The group will be led by the regional police office and include the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and other law enforcement agencies.
Navarro said investigators have identified a person of interest based on initial leads, while the NIA central office has offered a P100,000-reward for information leading to the arrest of those behind Antatico’s killing.
Police Captain Perlita Simon said investigators have obtained CCTV footage from the crime scene, which is being examined in the hope of tracking down the gunmen.
