The Ministry of Interior’s Command for Research, Investigation, and Suppression of All Types of Crimes has condemned false accusations spread by a Chinese social media account, Tie Xiao Jun, on Monday.
In a statement yesterday, the ministry said that the unfounded allegations accused the Cambodian National Police of selling information to online scammers and turning a blind eye to the torture of Chinese citizens working on online scam sites in Cambodia.
The ministry clarified that there are no foreign victims as suggested. The accusations contradict the ongoing efforts of Cambodian authorities, who have been actively addressing online scam cases and responding to intervention requests from foreign nationals within Cambodia.
The ministry noted last year and in early 2025, Cambodian police launched investigations based on 1,783 requests for intervention from foreign sources, identifying 3,304 foreigners. Of these, 1,395 cases involved fabricated information from individuals seeking to quit their previous jobs or contracts (673 requests) and cases where foreigners entered Cambodia illegally and were unable to return to their home countries (683 requests).
At least 32 requests were submitted by unknown individuals, and the parties involved did not request intervention.
