'Iowa Mama Bear' sentenced to probation over false sexual abuse claim - Yahoo News

An Ankeny woman known as the Iowa Mama Bear was sentenced to probation Monday after she pled guilty to making a false claim of sexual abuse in the home of her former counterpart.

Kimberly Reicks, 40, is a conservative activist who built a national profile for her opposition to mask mandates in schools and her continued opposition of a student organization's after-school drag show last year at Ankeny High School.

Reicks was accused in October of making false claims of abuse in the home of her former business and activism partner. Police say Reicks falsely reported to the Department of Human Services that one of the former business partner's children had sexually assaulted their sibling, a criminal complaint says. The family was interviewed by police and a DHS case worker, who determined the claim was false.

She pleaded guilty earlier this month to making a false report to a public entity, a misdemeanor.

On Monday, Polk County Judge Brendan Greiner suspended a one-year jail sentence and instead placed Reicks on one year of probation, according to court documents. Reicks also must pay victim damages in an amount that is to be determined, participate in a reconciliation session if the victim chooses to, and pay $430 in fines with a surcharge.

There also is a no contact order in place until 2028.
