Irish Dance Whistleblower Hands Over Details Of 'Prostitute Hire' Claims - Extra.ie

Irish dancing whistleblower Ronan McCormack has handed over details of the alleged hiring of male prostitutes during major international Irish dancing competitions to the dance governing body.

It comes after An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG) sent him a solicitor’s letter challenging him to outline the source of his allegations and warning him his claims were damaging the organisation.

Yesterday, it was revealed the CLRG’s Leinster finals next week will include stringent anti-cheating rules, including a chaperone who will oversee judges and a ban on judges bringing paper or mobile phones into the competition room.

The CLRG is scrambling to recover after it was revealed 12 teachers had allegedly sent a judge a list of dancers they wanted to win in competitions unrelated to the Leinster finals.

Mr McCormack, a choreographer and original Riverdance cast member, followed up on those allegations with details of how some male officials had allegedly hired gay prostitutes during major dancing competitions.

None of those officials is currently in the office they held at the time of the alleged hiring of prostitutes, it is understood. In one competition in 2002, the male prostitutes allegedly stole furnishings at the hotel where the competition was taking place.

It’s alleged the hotel had to be compensated. In a letter sent to the CLRG’s solicitor this week, Mr McCormack explained: ‘To be clear, I was NOT in the rooms where the alleged incidents took place....
