IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley is demanding that the Washington Post "publicly affirm" that he was not a source for "illegal leaks" on Hunter Biden.
Shapley's lawyers sent a letter to the media outlet on Monday asking reporters Devlin Barrett and Perry Stein to clear Shapley's "good name" by confirming that Shapley was not the source for an October 2022 article over which Biden's team accused investigators of leaking information to the media.
The lawyers for Shapley called Biden's team's statements "false and defamatory."
"Biden family attorneys have falsely accused SSA Shapley of illegally leaking to you," the letter read, according to Fox News. "Shapley was not a source for you on that story, or any other story for that matter."
"It would be nice if you would publicly affirm that truth, and avoid becoming, through your silence, an accomplice in the media spreading false narratives dreamed up by Biden family attorneys to intimidate and silence lawful whistleblowers like SSA Shapley," the letter added.
A spokesperson for the Washington Post told the Washington Examiner that "we don't comment on our sourcing."
Shapley testified to the House Ways and Means Committee and claimed that officials at the Justice Department, FBI, and IRS interfered with the investigation by U.S. Attorney David Weiss, whose inquiry focused on Hunter Biden allegedly committing tax evasion.
