Is Jimmy Kimmel launching a news show with Rachel Maddow and Colbert? Here’s the real story - MassLive

Lately, a name that’s been at the center of many news stories is popular late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel, following his recent indefinite suspension on ABC due to comments about the killing of Charlie Kirk. But not all of the stories are true.

One rumor suggests Rachel Maddow and Stephen Colbert are joining forces with Kimmel to launch a newsroom named “The Independent Desk.”

And the million dollar question is — is there any truth to that statement?

The short answer: as of right now, no.

While the idea might sound probable given Maddow, Colbert and Kimmel’s political background as commentators, the fact is, there are no reputable sources supporting these claims.

No one from Maddow, Colbert or Kimmel’s teams have issued a statement suggesting the personalities have plans to form a news outlet. Requests for comments from those teams from MassLive were not immediately answered.

The “sources” spreading the rumors are coming from outlets like buzzreport.com and Biz2.allnews.com — neither of which cite creditable sources — or any sources for that matter.

Buzzreport.com cites “insiders” as a potential source with no indication of who those “insiders” are or where they come from and even claims the “new outlet” has launched its first broadcast already — which MassLive was unable to find.
