[OSEN=Yeon Hwi-seon Reporter] Singer and actor IU (Lee Ji-eun) has demonstrated a strong resolve by applying for a U.S. court to investigate the identity of a malicious commenter who spread false rumors.
On the 20th, a representative from her agency EDAM Entertainment officially stated to OSEN, "We have requested evidence disclosure from Meta in a U.S. court to confirm the identity of the malicious commenter who spread false rumors about IU."
IU’s side reported that Commenter A posted 52 cases of false content through an SNS account from March to October of last year, damaging her reputation. However, due to difficulties in identifying Commenter A’s identity, they requested the local court to compel Meta to submit the user’s subscriber information, including name, address, phone number, email address, and IP address.
According to this, Commenter A spread various malicious rumors, including allegations of plagiarism, false claims that IU is Chinese, false assertions about her overseas achievements, suspicions of "deceased person marketing," media control, public opinion manipulation, and false claims linking her lyrics to national tragedies.
In response, IU’s side has already received a court ruling in 2024 acknowledging defamation related to plagiarism allegations, resulting in a 30 million Korean won compensation order.
