Former Australian cricketer and Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie has called out selector Aaqib Javed’s lies over the former’s role, saying that he didn’t agree to Pakistan preparing turning tracks in the two Tests against England, that too by drying the pitch using industrial fans.
The matter appeared to have been settled, but fresh exchanges between Javed and members of the former coaching staff have brought the problem back into focus. The latest round of criticism started after Javed shared his views on a podcast.
Javed alleged that Gillespie and Kirsten complicated the selection process by not being open to input from other members of the team management, making things tough for the selectors.
But Gillespie has since responded to the claims, denying the allegations and providing his perspective on the events.
Gillespie also revealed that he wasn’t in favour of Javed’s decision to prepare turning tracks for the England series and use industrial fans to dry the Rawalpindi pitch. The strategy was adopted after Pakistan suffered a heavy loss in the series opener, where England piled up more than 600 runs.
