Carter alleges false claims after being linked to a Jane Doe lawsuit that initially named Sean “Diddy” Combs

A federal judge has ordered that Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter’s lawsuit accusing a Jane Doe and her attorney, Tony Buzbee, of orchestrating a false sexual assault claim be transferred to the Southern District of New York, shifting the battle to Manhattan federal court. The case was originally filed in Alabama.

In a recent opinion and order, the court declined Buzbee’s request to dismiss Carter’s claims outright but found that New York is the proper venue, given that the underlying allegations and related legal activity are closely tied to that jurisdiction. The transfer places the case in the same federal district where the original lawsuit was filed.

Carter’s lawsuit is a direct response to that earlier case, in which a Jane Doe alleged she was sexually assaulted at age 13 at a Sean “Diddy” Combs party at his New Jersey home after an awards show.

According to Carter’s complaint, the accuser initially filed suit against music mogul Sean Combs, claiming she had been assaulted by Combs and an unidentified “Celebrity A.” Carter was not named in that filing. He alleges his name surfaced later through a demand letter sent by the accuser’s legal team, which claimed he was “Celebrity A” and warned he would be publicly identified in the lawsuit if he did not agree to a settlement. Carter believes that to be extortion.
