JD Vance Says He Was ‘Surprised’ by Backlash From Josh Hokit’s False Claim Michelle Obama ‘Is a Man’ - Yahoo

JD Vance is weighing in on UFC fighter Josh Hokit's derogatory comment about Michelle Obama.

As Globe previously reported, Hokit, 28, won his fight against Derrick Lewis at the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House on Sunday, June 14, and claimed "Michelle Obama is a man" in a post-fight interview.

On Wednesday, July 15, the Vice President, 41, appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, and said that his team was concerned he would be asked about his thoughts on what Hokit said while appearing on The View on Tuesday, June 16.

"I was like, 'what an amped up fighter told a joke after a fight, said something after a fight, and that's actually national news?'" Vance told host Joe Rogan, 58. "I'm still surprised. I've been in politics now for three or four years. I'm still shocked the [expletive] that people get really fired up about."

However, the podcast host said he could "kind of understand" why people were upset, since this happened at the White House rather than a typical UFC venue.

"First of all, a cage fight at the White House is crazy already. I mean, if he said Michelle Obama's a man at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas, it's like, OK," Rogan remarked. "Not the best thing to say at the White House. Michelle Obama's a man is not the best thing to say."

"Fair, but the reaction to it to me was still totally disproportionate," Vance responded. "Dude, people say stuff all the time."
