An apology has been issued to a surfer over a social media post which said he abused competitors at an event.
The Channel Islands Surfing Federation (CISF) published allegations against Jersey surfer Ian Battrick which included he verbally and physically abused competitors at the GB Surf event in Thurso, Scotland, on 26 October, which ended up being postponed.
However, CISF - who also said Mr Battrick threatened a cameraman and dunked a female competitor - said it had come to light the claims were untrue and had apologised to him.
Mr Battrick said he welcomed the apology and described the incident as one of the "most difficult and traumatic periods" of his life.
'Apologise unreservedly'
CISF, who called Mr Battrick "brainless" in the post, said the allegations had been "repeated and amplified" across global media outlets and social platforms.
"We apologise unreservedly to Mr Battrick for our error of judgment in publishing these statements, together with all and any distress caused to him as a result and Mr Battrick has accepted our apology," a statement from CISF said.
"Both we and Mr Battrick now wish to draw a line under, and move on from, this matter, which we both hope will be respected."
Mr Battrick, who had apologised after saying he made a "mistake" when he paddled out while the competition was ongoing, said being falsely portrayed as someone who abused and harmed fellow surfers had been "devastating".
