The internet is much like the heralded new Brendan Fraser film “The Whale”: It’s a mix of the repellent and the brilliant.
The internet offers monstrous amounts of misinformation, conspiracies, consumer scams, cyberbullying and privacy invasion. And it offers wonderful sources of enlightenment too.
It’s why my organization NewsGuard, which rates the credibility of websites, wants to highlight hidden gems of the information world. We have received ample attention in the U.S. and Europe for highlighting the erroneous and misleading, whether it’s bogus health information or Russian President Vladimir Putin’s outrageous lies about Ukraine on Russian-backed sites.
