Jammu and Kashmir Administration refuted the allegations of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti regarding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, saying that no outsider was being allotted land under the scheme.

Mufti while addressing a press conference had alleged that Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha’s recent announcement on providing land to homeless people under the PM Awas Yojana could be an attempt to alter the demography of Jammu and Kashmir. “The administration is importing slums and poverty into the region under the pretext of providing housing to homeless individuals, which I believe is an attempt to alter the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir,” the PDP chief had alleged.
J&K Administration Clears Air over Allegations Made By Mehbooba Mufti
In an official communique, the J&K administration said that the data quoted by Mehbooba Mufti pertains to Housing and Urban Affairs, whereas the PMAY G scheme falls under the Ministry of Rural Development for rural areas of J&K. It stated that the PMAY (Grameen) phase 1 commenced on 1st April 2016, during which 257,349 houseless cases were identified in J&K based on the SECC data from 2011, and after verification by Gram Sabhas, 136,152 cases were sanctioned for J&K under the overall commitment of the Prime Minister for “Housing for all by 2022”.
