The election campaign committee for Joo Kwangdeok, the People Power Party candidate for Mayor of Namyangju, asserted on the 27th that the Democratic Party candidate Choi Hyundeok's claim regarding the decline in Namyangju City's fiscal independence is clear evidence of his incompetence as an administrator.
The committee stated that Choi Hyundeok’s remarks—made in campaign materials, debates, and media interviews—about Namyangju City's fiscal independence declining and ranking lowest among major cities, were proof of his lack of preparation and complete failure to grasp the conditions of Namyangju. They added that such comments undermine the pride and self-esteem of over 2,500 public officials and 740,000 citizens.
They explained that the decline in fiscal independence is an inevitable phenomenon that occurs when external funding increases due to a surge in welfare demands and a subsequent rise in subsidies from the national and Gyeonggi provincial governments. They emphasized that this is not just a problem unique to Namyangju City but a consistent trend observed across all 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, as well as in most local governments nationwide. “If someone claiming to be an administrative expert is not aware of even these basic facts, that is truly incompetent,” they said.
