Joplin-area man charged with participating in Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot - News-Leader

A southwest Missouri man is facing several charges for allegedly pushing a U.S. Capitol officer during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot in Washington, D.C.

Kyler Bard, 26, from the Joplin area, was charged Thursday with assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers; act of physical violence in the Capitol Grounds; and several other charges.

A criminal complaint says a tipster helped law enforcement identify Bard as being involved in the riot.

The complaint says video from that day shows Bard yelling "Move! Move! Move! We gotta push! We gotta push! Let’s go! We gotta go! Let’s go!" into a megaphone as the crowd approached the Capitol building.

Bard is then accused of pushing a Capitol officer, who pushed back, causing Bard to fall backward.

The complaint says Bard later posted pictures of himself on Instagram outside of the Capitol on Jan. 6 stating that he had been "maced and punched for yelling in a megaphone."

When interviewed by law enforcement as part of this investigation, Bard allegedly admitted to attending the "Stop The Steal" rally on Jan. 6 but stated he did not go inside the Capitol and did nothing illegal, according to the complaint.

Online court records indicate Bard was released on a personal recognizance bond as his case moves through the court system. Federal prosecutors did not seek to detain him further at this time.
