BOSTON — The state Attorney General’s Office has issued citations totaling over $218,300 against New Bedford-based menswear company Joseph Abboud Manufacturing Corp., company President John Tighe and Vice President Joe Bahena for violating various state employment laws.
The citations include restitution for affected workers and penalties, the Attorney General's Office announced in a press release Wednesday.
The AG's office alleges that in violation of the Massachusetts’ wage and hour laws, between at least March and July 2023, the company failed to make timely payments and issue appropriate paystubs to approximately 384 workers.
The AG's office also alleges that the company failed to provide certain requested information and documentation, including payroll records, to its office.

Immigrant advocacy organization referred the complaints
The AG's office began investigating this matter upon receiving a complaint referral from Centro Comunitario de Trabajadores, an immigrant advocacy organization based in New Bedford, and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division.
Adrian Ventura, executive director of Centro Comunitario de Trabajadores, said, "We're pleased with this news because it shows that nobody is above the law, and the company was violating the law."
