The village of Mount Prospect “violated” Illinois’ Freedom of Information (FOI) law by “improperly redacting” most of an email sent by then-Police Chief John Koziol to all police department employees within hours of his retirement on Dec. 31, 2021. The village’s action resulted in the blocking out of almost all of Koziol’s email, considered a public document by the attorney general, that Koziol wrote and delivered while a village employee.
