KALISPELL, Mont. — Kalispell company Mold Wranglers admitted to filing false requests for payment to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on Tuesday.
The company admitted to claiming an abatement of lead paint that was done at Freedom's Path Fort Harrison, when it wasn't.
Mold Wranglers faces a maximum fine of $500,000 and restitution.
Court documents say the company was working at the Freedom's Path Fort Harrison veteran housing project from 2018 to 2019, where they painted over a lead-based paint with an encapsulating paint.
The company's employees were not certified to conduct lead work and didn't notify the EPA that they applied the paint. The company received $456,000 for an abatement from the federal government.
The company had previously agreed not to perform an abatement.
