HOUSTON, Texas — A 51-year-old woman from Sedgwick County, Kansas, has been sentenced to federal prison for making false statements to law enforcement, according to U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.
Summer Heather Worden pleaded guilty on November 14, 2025, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alfred H. Bennett to three months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release. Worden was also ordered to pay $210,000 in restitution. During the hearing, evidence was presented that Worden falsely accused her former spouse of illegally accessing her bank account from the International Space Station amid their divorce. Despite an internal investigation clearing the former spouse, Worden continued to promote the false claim to media outlets and hired a consultant to amplify it. The court also heard that Worden publicly released her former spouse’s personal information.
In July 2019, Worden alleged her estranged spouse had guessed her password and accessed her bank account while on the International Space Station. However, investigations revealed that Worden had opened the account in April 2018 and both parties accessed it until January 2019, when Worden changed the credentials. It was also determined that Worden had granted her spouse access to her bank records, including login credentials, as early as 2015.
Worden has been allowed to remain on bond and will voluntarily surrender to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility, which will be determined soon. The...
