Karnataka: Telgi stamp paper scam whistleblower Jayant Tinaikar assaulted in Belagavi - Times of India

BELAGAVI: Jayant M Tinaikar, a whistleblower who helped police in arresting multi-crore counterfeit stamp paper scam mastermind Andul Kareem Telgi, was attacked by masked assailants in Karnataka's Belagavi.
The rural police have registered an FIR in connection with the assault.
Tinaikar had been providing information about Telgi since 1996. In 2001, his phone call to then Bengaluru police commissioner H T Sangliana led to the arrest of Telgi from Ajmer.
It must be noted that Telgi died of multiple health ailments.
As per Belagavi police commissioner M B Boralingaiah, Tinaikar was going in a car on the outskirts of Belagavi. Around Macche, some masked assailants on three bikes waylaid his car.
"Tinaikar was pulled out of the vehicle and was allegedly assaulted with rods," Boralingaiah said.
The commissioner said thatTinaikar was fist admitted to a hospital at Khanapur and was later shifted to another hospital in the city.
He has sustained injuries on his hands and legts. The police have recorded his statement, the officer said.
Boralingaiah said the police are investigating the case from all angles and so far there is no lead.
"After the arrest it will be possible to ascertain the motive of the assault," he said.
