Baseball players in Kentucky are exempt under state wage-hour laws as long as their wages and working conditions are covered under a contract or collective bargaining agreement, under a bill that went into effect March 17.
SB 15 would exempt players in Minor League Baseball, who are currently covered under a collective bargaining agreement, said Josh Alkin, senior vice president of government relations for Major League Baseball, in support of the bill on Feb. 13. Kentucky has two Minor League Baseball teams, the Louisville Bats and Bowling Green Hot Rods, which have about 70 players combined.
