Kim Min-jong Sues MC Mong for Defamation - 조선일보

[Sports Chosun Reporter Baek Ji-eun] Singer and actor Kim Min-jong has filed a complaint against MC Mong.

Oh Sung-heon, a lawyer from Law Firm Oh Kims representing Kim Min-jong, stated on the 1st that a complaint was submitted to Jongno Police Station in Seoul, accusing MC Mong of violating the Information and Communications Network Act, defamation.

MC Mong claimed during his live broadcast on May 18 that Kim Min-jong was a member of an illegal gambling group, Baduk-i, led by Mr. Cha, the younger brother of Cha Ga-won, CEO of Cha Ga-won One Hundred, and that Kim received allowances from Mr. Cha. He also alleged that after exposing this fact, Mr. Cha and Kim Min-jong attempted to bribe witnesses with large sums of money.

In response, Kim Min-jong stated that MC Mong’s claims are entirely false and declared he would take legal action.

Kim’s side emphasized that the allegations have severely damaged his reputation and trust built over 38 years since his debut in 1988, and caused tangible harm, including the suspension of discussions for a Hollywood film role and two advertising contracts that were under negotiation at the time.

Law Firm Oh Kims stated, “We cannot overlook the damage caused by clearly false claims,” adding, “We will cooperate sincerely with the investigation to clarify the facts and proceed with necessary legal measures, including civil claims for damages, in sequence.”
