South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, has announced that the mother of late actress Kim Sae-ron and a person accused of impersonating her aunt have been referred to prosecutors in connection with allegations of spreading false information about the actor.
In a statement on Monday, Gold Medalist said, “Following the indictment and detention of Kim Se-ui, head of YouTube channel HoverLab, several accomplices involved in spreading false information have also been referred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office [without detention] after police found grounds for criminal charges."
According to the agency, Kim Sae-ron’s mother and the person accused of impersonating her aunt face charges including defamation through false information, the unlawful distribution of recorded material and attempted coercion. However, police decided not to refer Kim Sae-ron’s father to prosecutors.
The agency further stated that lawyer Boo Ji-seok, who represents Kim Sae-ron’s family, and YouTuber Kwon Young-chan were also referred to prosecutors following separate police investigations. Gold Medalist alleged that the lawyer had used fabricated and manipulated material, including altered KakaoTalk messages and AI-manipulated voice recordings, during two press conferences.
