At the heart of the scandal that has engulfed KPMG is a relatively simple question: was the firm’s internal investigation into whistleblower allegations about misconduct in its audit division a whitewash from the start, or was it a genuine attempt to get to the truth?
That KPMG’s board, led by chairman Martin Sheppard, still does not know the answer to that question is a disgrace that will hang over the firm for a long time.
