The new independent chairman of KPMG Australia, Michael Ebeid, accused Labor Senator Deborah O’Neill of making false statements to the Senate when she first read out a whistleblower’s allegations of misconduct at the firm, suggesting her conduct was very inappropriate and unfair.
He made these claims in an email to KPMG deputy chair Carmen Mortell and fellow independent directors Jane Hemstritch and Patty Akopiantz last month in an extraordinary email chain released by the parliamentary committee examining the audit leaks scandal on Thursday afternoon.
