Kremlin Propaganda Falsely Claims Secret Prisons in Ukraine Torturing Russian POWs - Букви

The Kremlin propagandists have intensified the narrative about the alleged existence of secret prisons in Ukraine where Russian prisoners of war are tortured. Such statements appear in public speeches and interviews of individual speakers, the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council reports.

In an interview with propagandists, Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for “crimes of the Kyiv regime,” spoke of the existence of “cellars” and “secret prisons” where Russian prisoners of war are allegedly tortured, where “electric chairs” are used and staged filming is arranged.

“Similar stories are injected into the information space by Russian propaganda since 2014. However, all this time the Russians’ theses about “secret prisons” in Ukraine have remained only loud statements – they have not received any confirmation of their existence”

The center stressed that such information injections have an obvious aim – to discredit Ukraine and blur accountability for Russia’s war crimes.

Ukraine adheres to international humanitarian law in its treatment of prisoners of war. Representatives of international organizations have constant access to their places of detention and do not record violations.
