The legal representatives of Smilegate founder Kwon Hyuk-bin’s wife stated on Oct. 7 that they would take legal action if Smilegate repeatedly disseminates false information related to the couple’s divorce proceedings.
Law firm Gaon, representing Kwon’s wife, issued a statement detailing its position on the appeal, warning that it “plans to take strict legal action if the company’s public-relations office or other parties unrelated to the individuals continue to disseminate false information.” Gaon is a Seoul-based law firm specializing in corporate disputes, sports, and entertainment.
Kwon’s wife also criticized the involvement of corporate organizations in responding to media reports regarding a private divorce lawsuit between individuals. Gaon stated it was “unjust to mobilize a company organization in a private lawsuit between individual shareholders and disseminate distorted claims to the media.”
According to Gaon, a Smilegate public-relations official stated immediately after the fourth hearing in the divorce case on May 27 that Kwon’s wife was not a co-founder of Smilegate, had neither invested capital when the company was established, nor participated in its management. Kwon’s wife contends these statements are entirely false.
