Los Angeles County is free of allegations that it failed to pay a trainee firefighter for non-class time during hotel stays implemented as pandemic precautions.
The county required and paid for hotel stays as part of a compressed training program intended to minimize the chance of trainees catching Covid-19, but the undisputed facts show that the trainee who sued was free to engage in personal pursuits after classes ended for the day, so that time wasn’t compensable, the US District Court for the Central District of California said.
