LOS ANGELES — Following allegations of fraud tied to nearly $5 billion in childhood sexual abuse settlements, Los Angeles County has launched an online portal for the public to report suspected false claims directly for investigation.
The new webpage expands the County’s general fraud hotline and is specifically designed to collect reports of fraudulent claims filed under Assembly Bill 218. The 2020 law permanently extended the statute of limitations for civil litigation involving childhood sexual abuse to 22 years and opened a three-year window allowing previously time-barred victims to file claims. Since its enactment, the County has received more than 11,000 complaints.
