Labour dept inspects companies suspected of breaching employment laws - eNCA

JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Labour says it is targeting a number of international companies suspected of breaching employment laws– not just Huawei.

The department has taken the Chinese tech giant to court over the high number of non-South Africans in its ranks.

Huawei Technologies South Africa - which is a key technology supplier to a number of local telecommunication companies - is 90% staffed by foreign nationals.

eNCA understands that Huawei will meet with the department soon.

The Labour Department says while there are more than two million employers, it only has one thousand inspection officers.

It's now looking towards next week’s National Budget for more resources.
