LACo Nurse Tentatively Settles Sexual Harassment/Whistleblower Suit - MyNewsLA.com

A nurse practitioner who alleged she suffered months of sexual harassment by a doctor while the two worked at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center has reached a tentative settlement in her lawsuit against Los Angeles County and the physician.

Plaintiff Edna Yarashevich contended in her Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit that when she complained to a managing nurse about the doctor’s alleged conduct, the manager’s reply was, “Oh, he is just having his PMS.”

Yarashevich’s attorney filed court papers on Tuesday with Judge Cherol J. Nellon notifying her of the “conditional” accord and that a request for dismissal will be filed by April 1. No terms were revealed and it was not immediately clear if the settlement is subject to final approval by the Board of Supervisors.

In their previous court papers, county attorneys denied Yarashevich’s allegations, said they were barred by the statute of limitations and that the county was immune from the claims.

Yarashevich was hired by the rehabilitation hospital and the county in May 2022. The doctor, who was one of her supervisors, harassed the plaintiff and other female employees and once telling Yarashevich, “When you’re doing procedure, don’t pretend that you haven’t done it or as if you’re still a virgin,” the suit alleged.

The physician additionally said that Yarashevich looked smarter with a mask on than without one, the suit alleged.
