PHILADELPHIA – A Lansdowne home health care agency will pay more than $2.3 million in owed wages to nearly 400 employees under a consent judgment entered into last week in federal court.
“Home health care workers provide essential services to people who depend greatly on their care, and these workers deserve to be fairly and fully compensated,” said U.S. Department of Labor Principal Deputy Wage and Hour Administrator Jessica Looman in a statement. “The Wage and Hour Division will vigorously protect the workplace rights and dignity of these workers and ensure employers fulfill their obligation to comply with federal labor laws.”
An attorney representing Affectionate Home Health Care Services LLC at 14 S. Lansdowne Ave. did not immediately respond to a request for comment and there was no answer at the business’s listed phone number Thursday afternoon.
Labor Secretary Martin J. Walsh filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in September alleging the company and its owners, Ashford B. Sonii and Habibatu K. Dumbar, failed to pay employees overtime between Oct. 5, 2018, and Sept. 24, 2021, and failed to make, keep and preserve adequate and accurate records of employees’ wages, hours and other conditions of employment.
