The Department of Communities and Justice exists to help create a safe, just and inclusive New South Wales in which every person has the opportunity to realise their potential.

The Legal branch of the NSW Department of Communities and Justice provides legal services across the Department, to the Attorney General, the lead Minister of the Cluster, and to other Minsters.

The Legal branch is conducting a Law Clerkship Program of up to 6 months in duration, involving rotations though practice groups that include:

• Child Protection team provides advice and representation in matters relating to the care and protection of children and adoption proceedings.
• Civil Litigation team provides advice and manages claims and litigated proceedings relating to various criminal, tort and civil/administrative law matters and applications to the Attorney General and in Hague Convention matters.
• Commercial and Property team provides advice on all aspects of commercial law and practice, including commercial agreements, real property, intellectual property and employment law.
• Community Protection team provides advice and manages litigation in a range of criminal matters, including review of conviction, parole, high risk offenders, forensic patients, review of segregated and protective custody orders, management of inmates, detainees and parolees, and offenders subject to community supervision.
