Lawmakers demand answers to whistleblower claims of border policies being ignored - Fox Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Maryland Congressman Andy Harris recently sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after claims were made by whistleblowers that the death of Harford County mother Rachel Morin could have been prevented if U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had followed current policies and collected the DNA of illegal immigrants upon their entry into the United States.

Congressman Harris spoke with Megan Gilliland on a Friday edition of Fox45 Morning News to discuss the letter and his concerns that he has yet to receive a response. Harris says the policy of collecting immigrants DNA at the border is a longstanding one.

"[Congress] passed the law about 10 years ago," Harris said. "And I think it as exactly for this type of purpose. Some of these people entering [the United States] are criminals in their own country or will be criminals in this one."

Harris told Fox45 news the recent whistleblower claims was his first indication that the longstanding policy of collecting a DNA sample has, in many cases, not been followed. Including in the case of Rachel Morin's accused killer entering the country. He has yet to receive any response from DHS.

"I don't expect that [Congress] is going to receive an answer, maybe not before the election," Harris said. "But clearly [Mayorkas] is not following the law."
