Lawyer Kang Yong-seok, a former operator of the YouTube channel ‘Hoverlab,’ has belatedly been revealed to have apologized for past activities, including raising allegations of sexual assault against singer Kim Keon-mo.
According to online communities on the 9th, Kang, during a recent video on his YouTube channel ‘Byeonggi Clinic’ last month, expressed regret and apologized for attacking celebrities through Hoverlab in the past.
Kang stated, “(The purpose of Hoverlab was) to serve as a right-wing think tank. We aimed to gather people’s thoughts and convey right-wing ideologies or news in an easy and comfortable way. While mainstream and cable broadcasters tend to avoid strong criticism due to political pressure, YouTube had no such constraints, which led to its massive popularity.”
Regarding Kim Keon-mo, Kang admitted, “We viciously attacked a specific celebrity to the point of making them nearly irrecoverable. In Kim Keon-mo’s case, we focused our criticism excessively, far beyond what was necessary. Even though celebrities are public figures, I wonder if such harsh treatment was justified.”
Kang also addressed Hoverlab’s mocking broadcast at the scene of former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon’s death, explaining, “At the time, Hoverlab was like a runaway train. The live broadcast dragged on, and out of boredom, it turned into casual banter.”
