Lawyers who represent more than 40 former Washington Commanders employees sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday, requesting a meeting to discuss "serious concern" they have about an allegation in a recent ESPN article.
ESPN reported last week that Commanders owner Daniel Snyder obtained information from an NFL-commissioned investigation and used it as a "tip sheet" for law firms to help create a "enemies list." The NFL's investigation, led by attorney Beth Wilkinson, centered around allegations of bullying, intimidation and sexual harassment within the Commanders organization but did not result in the release of a written report.
The lawyers for the former employees, Lisa Banks and Debra Katz, wrote Tuesday that ESPN's reporting suggests Snyder obtained information about witnesses from the league, which would violate "a very specific promise the NFL made to our clients."
They wrote that some of their clients only participated in Wilkinson's investigation on the condition that their information would not made accessible to Snyder, citing a fear of retaliation if their names were disclosed.
"(We) are particularly interested in knowing whether there are facts to demonstrate that this 'tip sheet' allegation is unfounded," Banks and Katz wrote to Goodell.
An NFL spokesperson did not immediately reply to an email from USA TODAY Sports asking if Goodell had received the letter and plans to meet with Banks and Katz.
