Samsung reportedly isn’t changing one of the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s key zoom cameras after all. According to well-known leaker Ice Universe, a recent rumour claiming the flagship would get a shorter telephoto lens with a much larger sensor is “100% false.”
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is instead expected to keep the 5x telephoto camera used on the S26 Ultra, with the same 1/2.52-inch sensor. The earlier rumour suggested Samsung would swap this for a 4x telephoto with a considerably larger 1/1.9-inch sensor, but Ice Universe says that’s not happening.
There could still be a camera shake-up elsewhere. The leaker hasn’t commented on the earlier claim that Samsung will remove the 3x 10MP telephoto camera, so that camera could still disappear from the S27 Ultra. Its removal may not be a huge loss, though, given the phone’s 200MP main camera and its ability to produce good results at shorter zoom levels.
Samsung is reportedly planning to rearrange the positions of the cameras on the back, too, though the change isn’t purely cosmetic. According to the report, the new layout should provide better clearance for magnetic accessories, addressing an awkward issue with the current Magnet Wireless Battery Pack, which needs a cutout to accommodate the S26 Ultra’s camera arrangement.
That means the S27 Ultra could still look noticeably different from its predecessor even without the rumoured telephoto upgrade.
