There is a major demographic issue that is contributing significantly to inflation, and neither party is willing to address the issue properly: lack of workers due to baby boomers retiring and the lower birthrates that followed the baby boomer generation. Economists have been warning about this for decades.
Even if all early retiring baby boomers and parents staying home because of unaffordable day care or after school care came back to work, we’d still be short (depending upon which source you believe) 3-5 million workers.
Republicans made immigration a dirty word in this country because they are afraid that whites will become a plurality, not a majority. Democrats are afraid to challenge Republicans because they fear further erosion in working class support.
The reality is that increased immigration (not open borders, but immigrants who went through proper due diligence) can provide workers needed by businesses that can’t attract enough workers, such as restaurants, day care and small retailers. This would significantly reduce inflationary pressures.
For Republicans, let’s use a term they like: I suggest we call it Supply Side Demographics. Increase supply of workers and we all benefit.
