EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Daniela Labinoti, an El Paso attorney specializing in personal injury and employment law, highlighted the difficulties individuals face in staying informed about ever-changing laws.
"Laws change all the time," Labinoti said. "We attorneys in fact have to take CLEs yearly in the states we practice because there is new laws that come in on a regular basis."
Labinoti explained that attorneys subscribe to webinars and attend meetings to stay updated on legal changes.
She emphasized the importance of hiring a specialized attorney, as legal expertise varies across different fields.
"For example, like patent law or copyright law, those attorneys know the changes better and they will find out faster than someone that it's not, you know, practicing in that area of law," she said.
Labinoti also discussed a controversial bill, HP 30, which she said could impact plaintiffs' rights to compensation in Texas. "Unfortunately, the law was passed in the Senate and there was a hearing last week," she said. "Thank God hasn't passed yet, but we attorneys have been fought against that bill."
She urged individuals to seek legal counsel to navigate complex legal landscapes, warning against relying solely on online information.
"You have to hire a lawyer because not everything that's in Google is correct," Labinoti said.
