Position: Legal Secretary – Litigation

The Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund (DREDF) seeks a legal secretary with at least three years of litigation experience to join our team. The legal secretary will work with attorneys supporting our work defending and promoting disability civil and human rights.
DREDF is a leading national civil rights law and policy center directed by disabled people and parents who have children with disabilities. Our mission is to advance the civil and human rights of people with disabilities through legal advocacy, training, education, and public policy and legislative development.
Position Overview
Under general direction, performs a variety of secretarial and litigation support work. This position requires knowledge of the preparation and processing of legal documents, legal terminology, civil procedures and discovery, and federal and state court rules.
Responsibilities
- Prepares legal documents such as pleadings, briefs, proposed orders, complaints, and discovery
- Files documents in state and federal courts at both the trial and the appellate level
- Maintains litigation calendar and keeps check on cases to ensure timely filing of pleadings, and to inform attorneys of court imposed deadlines.
