Letter: Republicans are busy espousing false rhetoric and claims. Please base your vote on facts. - Salt Lake Tribune

Inflation, immigration, and crime seem to be the main focuses of the Republican campaign. Mike Lee is asking to return the Senate and the House to the Republicans. But why? Have they offered any plans to curb inflation, instill the rights of the people, decrease crime, or stop the immigrants flowing to our borders? Nope. Just rhetoric. “If you say something often enough, it becomes the truth” may be their ploy.

I would ask all voters to look at facts and use those to determine your vote, not rhetoric. If inflation is Joe Biden’s fault, why did Republicans grill Jerome Powell on it? If Republicans want to curb inflation, why aren’t they supporting more drastic measures to mitigate global warming — a major cause of many migrations, and supporting policies in other countries to help the governments build their infrastructure so people can stay there. I have not seen a viable Republican plan to address climate change. In fact, they objected to the infrastructure plan which is the most comprehensive plan we now have.

On the other hand, Democrats have historically been better with the federal budget. Biden has introduced, and Democrats have passed, legislation to address climate change. Democrats are fighting for the rights of individuals, from securing a right to abortions, to decreasing pollution in poorer communities as well as supporting enhanced voting rights.
