LETTER TO THE EDITOR: GCT officials refute false claims about Gotion project, legal fees - The Pioneer
We wanted to take a moment to respond to a letter that appeared in Friday’s edition of The Pioneer. A Big Rapids resident that made many speculative claims that are completely false. Let’s review them:
We took an oath from a resident to be able to run in the recall election. The only oath we took was to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Michigan.
We only ran to stop Gotion. The current board HAS been serving the people and performing our fiduciary duties since being elected a year ago. There were many problems in Green Charter Township beyond the concerns surrounding Gotion project.

Attorney fees have been $120,000 a month since March making it over $1,000,000 spent by the township. These statements and others like them are formed without fact, and the numbers are simply absurd. GCT’s general budget is in the black, and our unplanned expenditures (ie. Gotion litigation costs) have been planned for moving forward. The Township has never paid $120,000 in any month since the lawsuit for attorney fees. The township operates on a 1.25 millage, and GCT accounts would have been drained many months ago if we actually paid 120,000 each month to attorney’s fees.
We are paying 4 law firms on retainer fighting Gotion. The township has retained four law firms. GCT’s legal team only bills when work is done. They respect the township’s finances, and have provided the township with excellent...
