The 'Kim Archer' article "Just Curious" on the front page of the Thursday, May 18th issue of the Examiner-Enterprise "fact-checks" Sen. James Lankford's description of the border chaos as "false and misleading" by quoting Amy Grenier, a Washington-based lawyer who works for an open borders organization advocating for more and easier immigration.
Sen. Lankford was describing the border catastrophe based on personal observation of the facts on the ground. Ms. Grenier is describing the theoretical process for asylum seekers, and appears to have no personal experience whatsoever of how the legal process has been overwhelmed by the flood of economic migrants making false claims of persecution.
Once a migrant crosses the border, the interview with a "specially trained government official" that Ms. Grenier says asylum seekers have to undergo may be five, seven or 10 years in the future. In the meantime, the migrant enters the underground economy to work off their debt to the drug cartels that control the southern border.
This "Just Curious" piece is not fact-checking. This is willful blindness and a great disservice to one of the best and hardest-working senators in Washington. Sen. Lankford has done yeoman work trying to rein in Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas' ignorant attempts to send undocumented migrants in the thousands to small Oklahoma towns like Hinton, which have no hotels, no facilities, not even a bus station.
