In 1969, President Richard Nixon’s attorney general, John Mitchell, advised the press to “watch what we do, not what we say.”
Sadly, this also applies 45-plus years later to the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s DOGE. First, my recent visits back to Grand Forks show a lot of people doing a lot of great things. Kudos for those efforts.
Now, the rest of the story. I spent time visiting in the courthouse. One friendly, individual deputy did a great job adequately screening and getting many people into the building. I also visited the federal building several times. Each time I was the only person entering. Yet, it takes three federal employees to safely secure the entry point. Uff da!
Voters should watch the Republican D.C. trifecta spend, not false claims about deficit reductions.
