Truth, falsehood and Mike Lindell

“MyPillow” guy Mike Lindell is hosting a “Moment of Truth summit” here in Springfield. But we don’t need a “moment of truth,” we need a lifestyle of it.

Why? Because we can’t get where we badly need to go without the clear light of the truth. And as long as we listen to people who feed us falsehood after falsehood, we’ll keep stumbling along in the dark. This is a recipe for disaster.

Back in 2011, I got caught up in the controversy over then President Barack Obama’s birth certificate. As an honest computer guy, I became the only person ever to do a thorough, professional investigation and then write an entire book about it. I never found the slightest credible evidence of “forgery” — but manipulators like Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio raised literally millions of dollars pushing easily-debunked false claims to people who wanted to believe.

When it comes to spectacular public claims, I’ve learned three key principles. The first is that a huge pile of baseless claims doesn’t prove anything, except how determined the bad actors are to put one over on us. Their strategy, which too often works, is to publicly pile up so much horse manure that they convince a bunch of us that there must be a pony in there somewhere.

At one point, I documented 118 different claims that then-President Obama was “ineligible.” I and other honest investigators sifted through them all, and found that every single one was horse manure. There was no pony to be found...
