Re "Former OSU player introduces mentorship program" (Nov. 9): Former Ohio State University player George Reese introduced a program at Independence High School to link freshmen young men with mentors on a weekly basis.
The ACE program’s goal is to help fill in the gaps of opportunity that prevent boys and young men of color from fulfilling their full potential. It consists of guidance, wisdom, and helping them build the skills to develop cooperative relationships with others.

A quote from former player Seth Towns states “The thing about these kids is they’re so capable. They just need a little more guidance than some others.”
Current OSU player Isaac Likekele added, “I truly want things greater for our world in the future. If the youth (are) our future, what better way to affect the future than to give to the youth?”
Programs such as this recognize that unless there is an intervention in their lives, so many kids will be lost.
I commend and think we can all give thanks to these young men for taking action to help young people in so much need.
